Dream Beyond the Dream

I used to think I was a dreamer.

I always say that, “to dream is to go beyond yourself…” – and there is truth in that. However, today I realized I’m not the dreamer I thought I was. I have dreams that go beyond my capability – beyond me and into a realm where the only chance of them succeeding is God alone putting His hand into them. Then my dream hit me – really an internship opportunity – it sounded like a dream. It was everything I love and everything I want to do all in one. I would have said “yes” in a heartbeat. God had other plans…or rather has other plans. I still would love to be saying “yes” to this. Traveling all over the world, dancing, pioneering a creative arts ministry in a church and raising awareness for human trafficking — that sounds most incredible to me — and that is only the highlights. There is more.

When I think that this is my dream and it practically fell into my lap all for God to say, “no” I wonder what He has in mind store.  Then I thought about it a bit more and realized if the dream I envisioned can practically fall in my lap by being offered to me by someone else, maybe I’m not dreaming big enough. Though this I realize that God wants me to expand my vision. Before I didn’t think I could possibly think any bigger than I was…now…now is another story. It is most incredible what can happen when you dream with God. It opens a whole new realm of thinking.

But dreaming is meant to go beyond casting visions…you’re meant to live them out.

This week I have been challenged to dream with God and I am challenging you to do the same. If you can achieve your dream in your own strength you’re not dreaming – you are simply living a goal-oriented life.  We have lost the art of dreaming well. Let us go back to a dream-state with God. Nothing is impossible for Him.

What is your dream?

Your Life For the Gospel

“He is no fool who gives what he cannot keep to gain that which he cannot lose.” – Jim Elliot.

What do you burn for?

What in your life gives eternal value?

You never know when your last day is. Are you prepared to lay down your life for what you claim to believe? Do you really burn for the gospel? Are you truly passionate about God, or are you in love with your religion?

The gospel will be an offense…persecution will come and persist, and in a paradox, instead of dying out, this will cause an uproar and a move of God – it will come out of the persecution.

Your life for the gospel – a life that makes sense in eternity. I life lived for God.

What burdens and burns in your heart?

My life for the gospel looks like invading the low and dark places that only the broken and shame are found. The victims, the abused, the prostitutes, the emotionally devastated, the hopeless, the runaway, the lost, the disillusioned, those who no longer see their priceless worth after being stripped down to what they see as nothing, the hurting – the broken women.

My life for the gospel looks like living the unloved and battered women and girls. To reach out and rescue the ones from which innocence has been torn away.

My life for the gospel looks like reaching into the dark places of a broken soul for the light the enemy has tried so desperately to steal from them.

My life for the gospel brings a restoration to the broken and a recognition of redemption. It brings hope.

What does your life for the gospel look like? What burdens your heart? Where can you make a difference?

You see him walking down the hall, (what do you mean who? Don’t ask me who. You know who I’m talking about!) and all the sudden your mind begins to move at a  whirlwind speed! Will this be the day that he finally notices you! How long has it been since you have wanted him to see you? How long have you waited to get his attention? And still, if you do get it, how far will you go to gain his affection? How much do you really need him?

Maybe it has been the same guy for months or years even. Or maybe it is a different guy every week. You can’t seem to help yourself with these feelings. It is a longing in your heart that you can’t describe – the need to be noticed and the need to be recognized and loved. It is as if you cannot be complete without him. And he doesn’t even realize everything he is to you.

You desire and you want…you push yourself further every time.

This is just an example of the violent craving that Dannah addresses in her book, Get Lost, to be released on April 2nd. Not only does she talk about the craving, but she also talks about the cure. Included in this book Dannah walks you through a 10 day “love feast” and finally the fulfillment. This is a book about God and guys and how we can sometimes get them mixed up.

“Discover how to get so lost in God that a guy has to seek Him to find you.”

Love can be a complex word. We love our family, we love our friends, we love our food? The English language by far is lacking in the area of what love really is. Dannah goes though scripture and talks about the Hebrew and Greek words for love and what they mean. In example, Hesed is the Hebrew form of love to describe the God kind of love for us. In the Greek, this love is called agape. This love is unfailing, and is not rooted in emotionalism or circumstances – it is a love that is about the other and not oneself. This is the love that we really desire, and long for, and that is offered to us, but dear one will you respond?

Get Lost with God as Dannah leads you through a 10-day love feast that will lead you to countless days in the love and presence of our Lord.

So what are you waiting for? It’s time to get lost!

Pray to Seek or Pray to Be?

pray

I felt convicted in my prayer time the other day. Here I was asking for God to work and move in a situation for someone I know, and then He shows me how I can be an answer to their situation. That is not often something that comes to mind. So often, I think we believe that asking God to do means it will be done (or won’t be done…we say it depends on what His will is…).

But here is the deal:

God chooses to use people.

I often hear Pastor Thomas tell us that, “without God, we cannot; without us, God will not.”

How humbling is that.

God wants to use you!

Sometimes, we have to pray for the answer, but sometimes we have to pray to BE the answer.

Do you really want God to move? Ask Him what He would have you do?

Someone spoke at our school last year and shared with us this statement:

“Don’t pray prayers you aren’t willing to be the answer to.”

God wants us to co-labor with Him. How can you be an answer to the prayers you pray? How can you be an answer to somebody else’s prayers?

Success is…

This is a response inspired by Mary DeMuth’s post on measuring success. Mary’s post made me think about what my definition of success is. This is what I came up with:

SuccessDefinition

Success is: knowing that at the end of the day, what you exchanged a day of your life for made a difference in the Kingdom.

That picture is from my first missions trip a few years back to New York City. I went expecting to change and to bless lives; I came back changed and blessed. Something that really hit me while in New York was the stark contrast between the rich city life and just a few blocks away the poor neighborhoods. There is basically no middle class. You either have or you don’t.

The girl in the picture touched my heart in such a way I can’t express. Our first day on the streets we got to spend with a group of kids in an extremely run-down neighborhood.  The kids were so excited when our group came. We spent the whole day with them. I wish it could have been the whole week. It took just moments to fall in love with these kids! Many of them cried when we had to leave.

This is where I learned just how love makes all the difference in the world. This girl, Breanna, she touched my heart – even now, I still pray for her. I know that my day with her made a difference in her life – it made a difference in the Kingdom.

How do you define success? Can you tell of a time when you  have you been successful?

21 Days of Never-the-Same – Day 11

7 Quotes that revolutionized my thinking over the years:

Jesus is being lost in a religion bearing His name. People are being lost because they cannot reconcile Jesus’ association with Christianity. Christianity has become docile, domesticated, civilized. We have forgotten there is a kingdom of darkness stealing the hopes and dreams and souls of a humanity without God.” – The Barbarian Way

This is a reminder to be radical!

“Often times exploration and seeking gets left behind because it’s interpreted as a weakness. But it feels right to write about that because that’s where I am. Questioning is such a prerequisite to growth. If you’re not asking hard questions, how can you be taking a journey to the answers?” – Nichole Nordeman

Never stop seeking. There is always more.

“The sufficiency of Christ is more than enough for you.” – Pastor Ben

This might seem so simple. But this truth is what I remind myself of every day. That from where I’m at, everything that I have ever been through was preparation for going through today. What God has done in my life, and the essence of who He is, is more than enough for me live strong today.

“Call on the promise.” – Lisa Greathouse

My dance teacher told me this years ago. To me it is a constant reminder of the faithfulness of God and that when He gives me a promise, I have a promise and it’s not my job to see that it is made. He is faithful to complete it.

“An attitude of expectancy is the breeding ground of miracles” – Pastor Jeff

Expect God to move. He longs to intervene in our lives. Believe He will and do what He tells you to do. You will see the supernatural when you take that step of obedience to partner with Him.

“It is not the bad things in life that keep us from the best things of God. It is the good things that keep us from the best.” – Joanie Jarrett, Missionary to Scotland

Just because something is “good”, doesn’t mean that it is of God. Staying connected with Holy Spirit is key.

“…before the Lord’s sword will come through your mouth, it must first pass through your heart…” – The 3 Battlegrounds

Without having a revelation of His Word and Truth, it’s just empty words. Develop a love for the Word of God. There is power in the revelation of Truth!
